By Ayo OnikoyiRising actress Chiamaka Enwena has opened up about her journey into acting, the sacrifices she’s made, and her personal style in an exclusive interview with Potpourri.
“My journey as an actor began when I was little. I joined the drama department in my school and also in my church. Though my parents didn’t allow me. You know the usual African parents kind of resistance. My father is a pastor. They didn’t let me until I grew older and made my decisions,” Enwena said, reflecting on how her passion for acting started despite parental hesitation.
Enwena also spoke about the challenges she faced in pursuing her career. “My greatest sacrifice, which I am still doing, would be literally leaving the work I was doing back then to focus on acting. And despite acting not paying because I was still starting and didn’t know my way around the industry back then, I had to quit my job. I was not really getting paid and the visibility I wanted, compared to how I am now. Getting underpaid just because of the visibility and meaningful connections that comes with it.”
When it comes to fashion, Enwena is equally clear about her preferences. “I might as well venture into fashion sooner or later. Outfits you can never catch me wearing—maybe unless it’s a costume—is dressing like a tomboy. You can’t see me wear those kinds of outfits like baggy jeans, t-shirts, and slides. You can never see me do that.”
