Nigerian actor and model, Tobi Bakre, has emphasised the importance of diligence, professionalism, and consistency, urging young actors to take even small tasks seriously.
The 2018 Big Brother Naija reality TV star stressed that opportunities often arise for those who demonstrate commitment and a strong work ethic, even in seemingly minor roles.
“To our fellow colleagues out there, to our younger ones… it doesn’t matter what you are doing, just do it well. You don’t know who is watching,” Bakre said on Menisms Podcast.
The father of two explained that many people miss life-changing opportunities because they fail to maintain high standards over time. He noted that performing one’s work diligently can open unexpected doors.
“You know, God has sent people several times, and you didn’t show them anything, so please show something,” the ex-banker added.
The 31-year-old onscreen star cited an example to illustrate his point, explaining that he would give opportunities to someone washing cars if they displayed diligence, professionalism, and commitment.
“There are opportunities I will give to someone who I know washes cars, but I see the diligence, the seriousness, and the commitment in how they do what they do. I could put them in charge of a company once I see just how they’re handling that little thing,” he said.
Bakre rose to prominence as a finalist on Big Brother Naija Double Wahala Season 3 in 2018.
Since then, he has transitioned into one of Nollywood’s leading action stars, becoming the industry’s highest-grossing actor in 2025, with box office revenue of over ₦1.4 billion.
Bakre is best known for his standout roles across several major Nigerian films and series. In Gangs of Lagos (2023), he starred as Obalola, the lead character in Prime Video’s first African original feature.
He also delivered an award-winning performance as Akin in Brotherhood (2022), earning Best Actor in a Drama at the 2023 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA).
The Ondo-born TV star also showcased his range in Slum King (2023), where he played Edafe (Maje Esu) in the popular Showmax series.
Beyond these, he has appeared in other notable films such as Sugar Rush (2019), RattleSnake: The Ahanna Story (2020), and The Blood Covenant (2022).
The actor graduated in Banking and Finance from the University of Lagos and worked as an investment banker for four years before pursuing acting.
He married Anu Oladosu in August 2021, and the couple has two children.
