Ahead of the 2027 general election, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Barr Ken Imasuagbon, has called on northerners to use their numerical strength to defeat the incumbent president, Bola Tinubu.
Imasuagbon, in a statement made available to journalists in Benin, urged Nigerians to rally behind the ADC candidate and former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, to rescue the nation from the current economic crisis
He stressed that the former Vice President represents the ultimate unifier needed to bridge the socio-political divides currently facing the nation adding that Atiku remains a consistent and reliable figure in Nigerian politics, emphasising that he would not disappoint Nigerians
He described Atiku as a consistent and experienced political leader capable of fostering national unity and bridging divisions across the country saying he is capable of rescuing the nation from the economic woes and divisiveness that have plagued the country since independence
Imasuagbon noted that Nigeria has continued to grapple with deep-seated structural challenges and systemic hardship, stressing that Atiku is a transformative leader capable of breaking the barriers of poverty and hunger
He said a key component of Atiku’s proposed policies under the ADC platform was the reopening of Nigeria’s land borders with neighbouring countries to promote regional trade and boost West African commerce
Imasuagbon said the closure of the borders had affected legitimate businesses and contributed to rising food prices, adding that restoring cross-border trade could help ease the cost of goods and services
“Beyond trade, Atiku’s economic blueprint directly targets the crippling cost-of-living crisis with a bold commitment to reverse the fuel subsidy removal implemented by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration,” he added
