West Ham’s captain, Jarrod Bowen, has committed to staying with the team even after their drop from the Premier League.
Bowen was rumored to be considering a departure from the London Stadium after West Ham's demotion to the Championship last season. However, the 29-year-old forward from England has committed to remaining with West Ham after reflecting on his future during the summer break.
He remarked, “The summer provides a lot of time for reflection and various thoughts.”
He added, “When I think about the future, especially regarding retirement, I consider what will ultimately make me the happiest.
For me, the decision was obvious. My primary motivation is to stay and help this club return to the Premier League where we truly belong.”
Bowen disclosed that he recently traveled to Prague to meet with Daniel Kretinsky, the majority shareholder of West Ham, to talk about the club’s goal of quickly returning to the Premier League.
Nuno Espirito Santo has also remained as the manager of West Ham after the team concluded their 14-year tenure in the top division.
“I was very intrigued by the ambition expressed by them, particularly regarding the direction they want to take the club,” Bowen stated.
Since joining West Ham from Hull in 2020, Bowen has scored 85 goals in 280 matches.
It didn’t require much effort since this club holds immense significance for me. Over the past six and a half years, I have evolved from a young player in the Championship to becoming the captain, which is a tremendous privilege," he remarked.
"Having 50,000 season ticket holders in the Championship is quite an achievement. It clearly demonstrates the loyalty and passion they have for the club, and their desire to see it return to the Premier League.
