OWERRI — Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has approved the immediate recruitment of 6,030 teachers to strengthen teaching and learning in primary and secondary schools across the state
The Commissioner for Information, Public Orientation and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, who announced this yesterday, said the recruitment was part of the state government’s broader strategy to strengthen the education sector
According to him, the newly recruited teachers had completed a six-week intensive training programme at the state-owned Ben Uwajimogu College of Education, Ihitte Uboma
Emelumba said the recruitment was undertaken to fill existing vacancies and ensure that there were no gaps in teaching and learning across the 27 local government areas of the state
He said: “This is the first time in a long time that this large number of teachers is being injected into the school system at once
“To underscore the importance that the governor places on the exercise, he will personally address the new teachers at the Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu International Conference Centre, Owerri”
The commissioner said the meeting, scheduled for today at 10am, would give the newly recruited teachers an opportunity to meet with the governor
He, however, clarified that only teachers who participated in the training programme at Ihitte Uboma would be allowed to attend the meeting
