Two children were rescued from a collapsed two-storey building on Thursday at Ajegunle Street, off Sabo Line, Ilọrin.
The victims identified as Ahmad, 8, and Hussainat, 10, were reportedly trapped, when the six-flat residential building collapsed at about 9:10am.
They were, however, later pulled out alive by residents and immediately taken to a nearby hospital.
No fatalities were recorded in the collapse, which has again raised concerns over the safety of aging structures in Ilọrin metropolis.
It was learnt that the structure had shown significant safety concerns before but is still inhabited.
Residents said officials of the Kwara State Fire Service were later summoned to the scene and helped salvage personal belongings including household items, food supplies and important documents from the debris.
The Disaster Management Department of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps subsequently sealed off the collapsed building.
It also issued a seven-day ultimatum to occupants of a neighbouring structure found to be structurally weak and unsafe for habitation.
Director of the Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, who was present during the operation, coordinated rescue and assessment efforts alongside other agencies.
He urged property owners and residents to take preventive measures seriously, stressing the importance of routine structural checks and prompt response to warning signs such as cracks and weakening foundations.
