The Director-General of the National Senior Citizens Centre (NSCC), Omobolanle Akinyemi-Obe, has reaffirmed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of elderly citizens and young Nigerians, describing his leadership as inclusive and people-focused. Speaking during a media parley at a prayer session held for the President in Aguda, Lagos, Akinyemi-Obe said Tinubu’s policies reflect a deliberate effort to support vulnerable groups while investing in the nation’s future. “He has given his all, investing in people—especially the youth—while prioritising social welfare and healthcare.
He wants every Nigerian, particularly the vulnerable, to feel valued and well catered for,” she said. She highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen protections for older persons, promote dignity, and improve access to nutrition and social inclusion. According to her, integrating the elderly into national development would help build a more self-reliant society. Akinyemi-Obe also noted that interfaith and intergenerational programmes are helping bridge gaps between age groups, fostering the transfer of values and life experiences.
Addressing concerns among some young Nigerians about the President’s age and leadership style, she urged youths to embrace mentorship and learn from older generations. On youth empowerment, she cited the student loan scheme as a major reform aimed at expanding access to higher education and promoting productivity. She also emphasised the importance of vocational skills alongside formal education. Akinyemi-Obe dismissed concerns about political opposition ahead of the 2027 elections, expressing confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and Nigeria’s economic recovery.
She said sustained reforms and inclusive policies would position Nigeria as a thriving, entrepreneurial nation driven by empowered youths.
