The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday asked leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to look inward rather than blame their challenges on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, made the call while addressing journalists at the party’s secretariat in Abuja.
He advised ADC leaders to focus on the pending court case concerning their leadership instead of resorting to what he described as propaganda through press conferences.
Bashiru also questioned the ADC’s claim of being the leading opposition party, noting its poor outing in recent elections.
”During the last FCT council poll, the party won no local government council, it won no councilorship positions. It lost the recently conducted by-elections in Rivers and Kano states. So, the party’s claim of being ‘leading opposition’ is baseless without electoral credibility or public trust.” he said.
He dismissed allegations that President Tinubu planned to turn Nigeria into a one-party state, saying it is unfair for the opposition to make such claims when they have failed to put their house in order.
Bashiru described the ADC’s call for the removal of the INEC chairman and national commissioners as laughable, questioning whether the commission prevented the party from pursuing its case in court.
He added that the ADC may still raise complaints after facing the consequences of proceeding with its convention despite a pending court case, drawing parallels with the PDP convention held in Ibadan in defiance of a court order.
