A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and founder of the Arewa Mandate Alliance (AMA), Yakubu Sani, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to prioritise governance, public utilities, and workers’ welfare over political confrontations
Speaking with journalists in Abuja, Sani urged the minister to take a cue from Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, by adopting a more measured approach to public engagement, rather than using official platforms to attack political opponents and party colleagues
According to Sani, Governor Uzodimma has consistently focused on governance, project delivery, and building political cohesion without turning public functions into arenas for verbal attacks
“Wike should learn from Uzodimma The Imo governor is working and organising quietly without abusing anybody. He is concentrating on governance, delivering projects, and organising the largest support base for the President,” Sani said.
The APC chieftain criticised the minister’s frequent use of project commissioning events to launch political broadsides, warning that combative rhetoric risks overshadowing the infrastructure achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration
“Every road and bridge commissioned in Abuja should be an opportunity to talk about development, not an occasion to abuse or denigrate perceived obstacles to his unbridled political ambition,” he stated
While acknowledging ongoing capital projects across the territory, Sani stressed that human capital development, municipal services, and civil service welfare must complement physical infrastructure
He expressed concern over lingering challenges in basic utilities, including erratic water supply, indiscriminate parking, and uncollected waste across major parts of the capital
“While Wike is building roads and bridges, he should also be asking what is happening to the welfare of teachers, healthcare workers and civil servants in the FCT
“Many FCT residents don’t have water, while motorists compete with refuse dumps for space on major roads in the city”
He added that sustainable urban development requires functional public institutions alongside roads and bridges
“You cannot build beautiful roads and bridges and ignore the people who teach our children, treat our sick, and run the machinery of the government Their welfare should also be a priority,” he added.
Sani urged the minister to remain focused on executing the President’s agenda for the nation’s capital and allow his performance to speak for itself
“President Tinubu gave Wike a job to do in Abuja He should concentrate on that job. Let the quality of his work speak for him instead of using every commissioning ceremony to attack APC governors who are committed to Tinubu’s re-election,” Sani concluded.
