In Nigeria’s bustling cultural capital, where new talents emerge daily and music continues to shape identity, a young artist, Skeng We$, is steadily carving a niche for himself in the industry.
At 24, the Lagos-born artiste, whose real name is Idris Sadiq, represents a new generation of creatives transforming personal experiences into compelling sound.
Growing up in Lagos, Skeng We$ was exposed early to a rich blend of artistic influences. His formative years were marked by creativity, from drawing comics to performing at school events, while also observing his brother produce music.
These experiences played a significant role in shaping his interest in music, which he began exploring during his junior secondary school days.
His professional journey officially began in 2021 with the release of his debut rap single, Flex/Power. Recording in a professional studio for the first time, he said, was initially intimidating but ultimately became a defining moment that strengthened his confidence and commitment to music.
Since then, the emerging artiste has been developing a unique sound he describes as a fusion of Afrobeats, Afro-trap, and Afro-swagu. His style draws inspiration from Nigerian music icons such as Lágbájá and 2Baba, as well as global contemporary stars like Wizkid.
Despite early skepticism from his parents over his decision to pursue music as a career, Skeng We$ has remained resolute. He continues to use his music as a form of expression, channeling emotions he finds difficult to communicate in everyday life.
Looking ahead, the artiste is preparing to release a new project titled We$ & The City, which he says will showcase a shift toward more energetic and fast-paced sounds aimed at engaging audiences and getting listeners on their feet.
With growing confidence and a clear artistic direction, Skeng We$ appears poised to join the ranks of emerging talents redefining Nigeria’s dynamic music landscape.
