Vice President Kashim Shettima and Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, on Friday joined thousands of Muslim faithful to observe Eid-el-Fitr prayers in Maiduguri, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
The two leaders, alongside the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, participated in the prayers at the central Eid ground.
In his sermon after leading the two raka’at prayer, the Imam Eidain of Borno, Shettima Mamman Saleh, emphasised the need for Muslims to uphold the virtues of Ramadan and promote peaceful coexistence.
Speaking with journalists after the prayers, Vice President Shettima expressed optimism that insecurity across the country would soon be brought under control through the proactive measures being implemented by both the federal and state governments.
He called for unity among Nigerians, noting that the overlap of Ramadan and Lent presents a unique opportunity for reflection and national renewal.
According to him, national progress is closely tied to peace, stressing the need for citizens to work together to address common challenges such as insecurity and underdevelopment.
The Vice President also commended the people and leadership of Borno State for their resilience and sustained commitment to peace, harmony, and development.
Other dignitaries present at the Eid ground included the Deputy Governor of Borno State, Umar Kadafur; the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Vice Chairman (North), Ali Bukar Dalori; Senator Ali Ndume; and Sen. Kaka Shehu Lawan, SAN.
Also in attendance were members of the National and State Assemblies, as well as the Secretary to the Borno State Government, Hon. Bukar Tijjani.
