Soludo's Second Term Begins with a Grand Celebration
The newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square played host to a historic event as Vice President Kashim Shettima and other esteemed guests gathered for the inauguration ceremony of Professor Charles Soludo, marking the start of his second term as Anambra State Governor.
The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) stalwart secured his re-election in the November 8, 2025, off-cycle governorship poll, solidifying his party's position in the state.
A Gathering of Political and Traditional Leaders
The event attracted a wide range of prominent figures, including former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, and former Commonwealth Secretary-General Emeka Anyaoku. Governors and traditional rulers from Anambra's 179 communities, as well as monarchs from across Nigeria, graced the occasion.
APGA's mobilization efforts were evident as members from all 326 political wards were present, showcasing the party's grassroots support.
Tight Security and Emotional Reflections
Security forces, including police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and Federal Road Safety Corps personnel, were deployed across strategic locations to ensure a safe and secure event.
The inauguration followed an emotional interdenominational thanksgiving service where Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for his second term mandate. He shared personal anecdotes about his journey into politics, revealing how he had to convince his wife, Nonye Soludo, and children to support his decision.
Soludo reminisced about his promise to his family, vowing to remain true to himself and his values. He said, 'I made a solemn promise to her and my children that I will remain authentic... I will be ready to resign instead of disappointing them.'
The governor's speech resonated with the audience, emphasizing his commitment to the people of Anambra State. He acknowledged the overwhelming support he received in the last governorship poll, where he secured 73% of the votes, and thanked the locals for their generous donations to his campaign.
As Soludo embarks on his second term, Anambra State looks forward to continued progress and development under his leadership.
