The Rotary Club of Abuja Federal, in partnership with the Silver Cross Hospital Foundation, has provided free medical services to residents of Piwoyi community in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Speaking during the one-day medical outreach held at the Piwoyi Primary Health Centre on Saturday, the President of the Rotary Club of Abuja Federal, Ismail Adeleye Ibrahim, said the initiative was aimed at providing healthcare services to residents, particularly pregnant women, nursing mothers and children. He said the outreach formed part of the club’s humanitarian interventions to improve access to quality healthcare in underserved communities. According to him, the programme focused on expectant mothers through the distribution of birthing kits and insecticide-treated mosquito nets, while beneficiaries also received free malaria screening, blood sugar tests, hepatitis screening, anaemia screening and routine vaccinations.
He said the successful outreach marked another milestone in the club’s humanitarian efforts, adding that Rotary remained committed to expanding its impact through sustainable community-based interventions.
Also speaking, the club’s Community Service Director, Philip Osonwu, said the intervention reflected Rotary’s guiding principle of “Service above self.”
He noted that the outreach was specifically designed to address the immediate healthcare needs of vulnerable residents, especially pregnant women and nursing mothers.
According to him, the programme underscores the Rotary Club’s commitment to implementing people-centred projects that improve lives and promote healthier communities across the FCT.
Beneficiaries spoken to, expressed appreciation to the club for bringing the free medical services to the community.
A pregnant woman, Mrs Asabe Ayuba, said the intervention had saved her the cost of seeking medical care at a private hospital.
