Zamfara State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) rose from N254bn in 2024 to N32.3bn in 2025, the state Auditor-General, Alhaji Abubakar Danmaliki, has said.
Danmaliki disclosed this in Gusau while presenting the 2025 audited financial statements and annual audit activity report covering ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) in the state
He said his office audited 98 MDAs during the year, covering revenue and expenditure, with audit queries issued to the affected agencies
According to him, while some of the queries had been resolved, others remained outstanding
The Auditor-General said the audit identified issues relating to non-compliance with financial regulations, procurement laws and public expenditure management reforms
He, however, said the 2025 financial statements were prepared in line with the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) Accrual Basis and fairly presented the state’s financial position as of December 31, 2025
Danmaliki said the audit covered the state’s financial position, financial performance, cash flow, changes in net assets or equity, budget performance, accounting policies and accompanying notes
He added that there was improved expenditure control and adherence to budgetary discipline across the MDAs during the period under review
However, he identified some areas requiring government attention, including incomplete fixed asset registers, unretired advances and imprests, and weaknesses in stores records and inventory management
He said the issues had been documented in the audit report, alongside recommendations for corrective action
Danmaliki urged accounting officers to respond promptly to audit queries and called on the government to enforce compliance with financial laws and sanction officials found to have violated financial regulations
He also recommended that all MDAs update and maintain comprehensive fixed asset registers in line with IPSAS Accrual requirements
The Auditor-General called for sustained training of accounts and audit personnel to strengthen financial management and accountability in the state
He said the reports were presented in fulfilment of his constitutional mandate under Section 125(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, and Section 85 of the Zamfara State Audit Law 2021
The reports comprised the audited general-purpose financial statements of the Zamfara State Government for the year ended December 31, 2025, and the annual audit activity report covering the state’s MDAs
Danmaliki commended Governor Dauda Lawal for supporting his office and promoting transparency, accountability and good governance
He also appreciated the State House of Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee, the Ministry of Finance and the Office of the State Accountant-General for their cooperation
The event was attended by representatives of the Head of Service, the Public Accounts Committee, the Clerk of the State House of Assembly, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, audit officials, former auditors-general and representatives of various MDAs
