The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has alleged a plot by some members of the ruling party to destabilise it and weaken efforts to build an opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general election
The party also warned against attempts to recruit polling agents in its name by individuals it said were not authorised to do so
In a statement released at the wee hours of Thursday, October 22, and signed by its National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the PRP alleged that some former members and serving party officials were being used to create divisions and undermine its grassroots support
The party further claimed that senior members of the ruling party were being persuaded to finance the alleged scheme with hundreds of millions of naira
It urged its members and the public to resist attempts to recruit polling agents without authorisation, alleging that money could be used to influence party members to support opposition candidates
The PRP also warned serving officers allegedly involved in the scheme that they would face disciplinary action
“The party hereby alerts its members and the public to these attempts and warns against the temptation to support these subversive elements,” the statement said
The party urged individuals in the ruling party allegedly involved in the plot to distance themselves from what it described as efforts to create a fictional PRP with their funds and names
Baba-Ahmed assured the party’s candidates and supporters that its leadership would not abandon their commitments and loyalty
He said the party remained committed to challenging the continuation of the present administration beyond 2027 and contributing to the formation of a potentially winning opposition coalition
The PRP however did not name the individuals or ruling party members allegedly involved in the scheme in the statement
