The Katsina State Government has unveiled plans to immunise no fewer than three million children in a house-to-house polio vaccination campaign aimed at eliminating preventable diseases and strengthening the primary healthcare delivery system in the state.
The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Agency, Dr Shamsudeen Yahaya, disclosed this during a chat with journalists, social media influencers, and a group of U-Reporters in Katsina.
He said the campaign is scheduled to run from March 28 to 31, 2026.
Yahaya explained that the exercise, being carried out in collaboration with development partners, including the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), is part of a broader strategy to boost routine immunisation coverage across the state.
He noted that the campaign will target children aged zero to five years, with special focus on infants between zero and nine months, who are most vulnerable to polio and other diseases.
He revealed that to ensure no child is missed, trained health workers will move from house to house, while also covering schools, markets, border communities, and other hard-to-reach areas.
He urged parents and caregivers to cooperate fully with vaccination teams and take advantage of the free services.
