Operatives of the FCT Police Command have rescued a man, Bashir Usman, from a mob attack following allegations that he attempted to abduct a five-year-old child in Kuje Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this to journalists on Tuesday at the command headquarters in Abuja. He said following receipt of the report, police operatives from the Kuje Division were immediately dispatched to the scene, where they rescued Usman from an irate mob that was about to lynch him. According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was being assaulted by the mob over allegations that he attempted to abduct a five-year-old child in front of her residence in Anguwan Lado, Kuje. The commissioner said the suspect had been taken into protective custody, while investigations were being expanded to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence and determine whether other persons were involved.
Sanusi strongly warned members of the public against taking the law into their own hands or engaging in jungle justice, describing such acts as criminal and capable of resulting in death
He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and pay close attention to the safety and wellbeing of their children and wards
