President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent visit to Plateau State has been described as a demonstration of empathy, compassion, and decisive leadership, according to presidential aide, Fredrick Nwabufo.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Engagement said the President visited the troubled state not only in his capacity as the nation’s consoler-in-chief but also as Commander-in-Chief, bringing both comfort and a firm resolve to address the root causes of the crisis.
According to him, Tinubu’s remarks during the visit reflected deep concern for victims of the recurring violence, as he engaged stakeholders and reassured affected communities of the Federal Government’s commitment to restoring peace.
“His words were clear, imbued with deep concern and compassion. He showed unvarnished empathy and care,” Nwabufo stated in a tweet.
Beyond the emotional tone of the visit, the President was said to have taken a strong position on tackling the underlying drivers of the conflict, emphasizing the need for concrete and lasting solutions.
Quoting the President, he highlighted Tinubu’s resolve: “We must break the shackles of death.”
Nwabufo said the President’s approach combined empathy with action, stressing that his administration is focused on addressing the fundamental issues fueling insecurity in Plateau State.
“Words must be matched with action; this is where the President is showing leadership, finding enduring solutions, with empathy at its core,” the aide added.
Tinubu’s visit has been interpreted in different ways, with critics faulting the President for meeting grieving families and other guests at the airport.
But the Presidency dismissed the criticisms, saying scheduling and logistics challenges made it difficult for the president to visit the affected community.
