Deputy Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Ahmed Idris Wase, has strongly condemned the recent wave of violence in Plateau State, describing the attacks as senseless and a threat to peace in the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, Wase expressed deep concern over the latest incident in Angwan Rukuba, Jos North, where unidentified gunmen reportedly attacked residents on Sunday, March 29, 2026, leading to multiple deaths.
He also decried reported reprisal attacks in parts of Jos North, which have resulted in further casualties and missing persons.
“The latest senseless attack and the numerous others are not only affronts to our shared humanity, but also direct threats to the peace and harmonious coexistence being rebuilt across Plateau State,” he said.
The lawmaker further highlighted a series of violent incidents across the state in recent months.
These include killings in Zurak and Sabon Gari communities in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area, attacks on soldiers and residents in Garga community in Kanam LGA, and the ambush of four traders in Pankshin.
He also cited the reported killing of 10 people in Barkin Ladi and Riyom LGAs, as well as the murder of six residents in Miango, Bassa LGA. Wase added that 12 soldiers and eight vigilantes were killed in an ambush in Wanka community, Kanam LGA, describing the incidents as “highly troubling.”
Wase condemned all forms of violence, stressing that such acts are unjustifiable regardless of the perpetrators or motives. He extended condolences to victims and their families across affected communities.
He, however, commended the swift response of security agencies, as well as the Federal and Plateau State governments, in deploying personnel to restore order in troubled areas.
He specifically praised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for imposing a curfew in Jos North and initiating investigations into the recent violence.
The Deputy Speaker called for increased vigilance and a more sustained security effort across the state, urging law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible for the attacks.
He also appealed to residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to remain calm and avoid retaliatory actions that could escalate tensions.
“Violence has no place in a sane society. Dialogue, justice, and the rule of law remain the only pathways to building a peaceful and progressive Plateau State,” Wase said.
He reiterated his sympathy to all those affected, offering prayers for the victims and their families.
