Vice President Kashim Shettima on Tuesday represented Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the grand finale of the 2026 National Police Day celebration held at Eagle Square, Abuja.
The Vice President arrived at the venue early in the day and immediately proceeded to inspect the parade, taking the salute from officers of the Nigeria Police Force as the ceremony commenced.
Shettima’s presence was confirmed in a statement issued by his media aide, Stanley Nkowcha, who noted that the event had formally begun with ceremonial honours.
“Vice President Kashim Shettima is currently taking the salute from officers on parade as the 2026 National Police Day ceremony gets underway,” the statement read.
The National Police Day grand finale attracted top government functionaries, senior police officers, security chiefs, and personnel drawn from across the country.
Organisers said the event is designed not only to showcase the professionalism and discipline of the force but also to honour officers who have died in active service.
The statement added that the ceremony would include tributes to fallen personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
At the parade ground, officers were seen “lined up in full parade formation” in a display of regimental precision as they received the Vice President.
The National Police Day celebration is an annual event aimed at recognising the contributions of the police to national security and strengthening public confidence in the force.
