Hajiya Umma El-Rufai, mother of former Kaduna State governor, Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, was laid to rest in Abuja on Sunday.
She was buried at Gudu Cemetery following funeral prayers conducted in line with Islamic rites.
Daily Trust reports that the matriarch of the El-Rufai family died on Friday in Cairo, Egypt, where she had been receiving medical treatment.
Hours after her death, El-Rufai, who had been in detention for over a month, was released.
Top government officials and dignitaries, including former and serving governors, as well as opposition figures, attended the funeral prayer.
Earlier, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu; Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani; and the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu, had sent condolence messages to the family.
Also, prominent figures, including the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, paid condolence visits to El-Rufai at his Abuja residence.
