Pepsodent has launched a campaign aimed at reaching 50 million Nigerians with an oral health awareness campaign, as part of activities marking the 2026 World Oral Health Day.
The initiative, themed “Do The 2,” seeks to promote proper oral hygiene habits, particularly the practice of brushing twice daily and maintaining regular dental check-ups.
The outreach will span 17 states, with strategic focus on major urban centres such as Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt, and Enugu.
Speaking at a press briefing, the firm’s Brand Manager for Pepsodent, Lauretta Amie, said the campaign was designed to instill lifelong oral health habits among both children and adults.
“The ‘Do The 2’ campaign is a call to action for Nigerians to brush twice daily and maintain regular dental visits. Through our collaboration with the Nigerian Dental Association, we aim to reach 500,000 people directly, driving awareness on prevention, detection, and treatment of oral health diseases,” she stated.
Dr. Gloria Uzoigwe, Head of the Dentistry Division at the Federal Ministry of Health, highlighted the importance of public-private partnerships in improving national health outcomes.
She noted that collaborations with companies like Unilever Nigeria Plc have significantly expanded access to oral health education, particularly among school children through established programmes.
She commended both the private sector and professional bodies for their continued contributions to public health advancement.
President of the Nigerian Dental Association, Dr. Emedom Elias, described the 2026 celebration as a critical opportunity to emphasise the importance of oral health to overall well-being.
According to him, this year’s theme, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,” reflects the role oral health plays beyond clean teeth and gums, impacting essential daily functions such as eating, speaking, learning, and social interaction.
He called on government and stakeholders to prioritise oral healthcare and integrate it more effectively into the primary healthcare system.
In his keynote address, Abayomi Alli, Head of Supply Chain at Unilever Nigeria Plc, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to improving lives beyond delivering quality products.
He stressed that good oral hygiene not only prevents cavities and gum disease but also helps reduce the risk of systemic conditions such as diabetes and heart disease.
“World Oral Health Day is a moment to recommit to transforming oral health awareness and access to care in Nigeria. With the ‘Do The 2’ campaign, Pepsodent is proud to play a role in building healthier smiles across the nation,” Alli said.
