Osun State House of Assembly on Thursday faulted the deployment of Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Mutiu Agboke by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The Speaker, Mr Adewale Egbedun said the redeployment was part of strategies to rig the August gubernatorial election in the state.
Agboke had announced his redeployment to Ondo State in a message shared on the official Osun INEC WhatsApp platform late Wednesday.
In the message, he expressed deep appreciation to staff members, media and other stakeholders for their cooperation and support throughout his time in the state.
But Egbedun described the redeployment as a political manoeuvre, saying that similar redeployments was not done in Ekiti State by the electoral body.
He said, “No amount of administrative changes or deployments of interested officials will override the will of the people of Osun State. The people are politically conscious, vigilant, and determined to ensure that their votes count and reflect their true choice.”
“Anything short of this will be firmly resisted by Osun people,” he said, calling on the international community, development partners, and observers to monitor the situation closely.
He added, “It is instructive to note that Ekiti State, which precedes Osun in the electoral calendar, has not witnessed such widespread deployments of electoral officials. This raises serious and legitimate questions.”.
