The immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has dismissed circulating social media claims that he intends to contest the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027.
The clarification came in a statement from his Media Adviser/Consultant, Dr. Terver Akase, who described the viral report as entirely false and misleading.
“Our attention has been drawn to yet another imaginative piece of fiction making the rounds on social media, claiming Chief Ortom is preparing for a 2027 senatorial bid,” the statement read.
Akase noted that while such rumours would normally not merit a response, the need to prevent public confusion made it necessary to speak out.
“Ordinarily, such a poorly scripted tale would not deserve a response. However, for the sake of unsuspecting members of the public who might mistake fiction for fact, it has become necessary to set the record straight,” he said.
The statement emphasized that Chief Ortom has consistently and publicly stated that he has no plans to seek elective office in 2027.
“Chief Ortom has no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. He has said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly,” Akase stressed.
According to the him, the former governor remains focused on supporting democratic principles, strengthening his party, and providing statesmanlike guidance rather than pursuing political office.
“Chief Ortom sincerely appreciates the calls, messages, and genuine concern expressed by his supporters, friends, and party members since this false report began circulating. We urge the public to treat the report for what it is, a fabrication,” the statement said.
