One person was injured and many vehicles smashed following a clash between operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and traders in Chorbe market in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Thursday
The injured trader was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment
Daily Trust gathered that the NSCDC operatives were said to have been invited by the officials of the market to enforce weekly sanitation exercises when some of the traders who claimed they were not part of the exercise disagreed with the enforcement
The angry traders explained that their shops were along the road and not inside the market, a development that resulted in a heated disagreement which led to the shooting of a trader
Our correspondent, who was on ground, observed that within minutes the whole streets close to the market were deserted as the residents ran into their houses
There was pandemonium in some areas including Apata, Alikazaure and Katako after the traders regrouped to confront the civil defence operatives
Spokesperson of the Plateau State NSCDC command, ASP NR Rimvyok, said the incident is being investigated
