Kogi State Governor Usman Ododo has appealed to retired professionals in Nigeria’s power sector to support ongoing efforts to reform the electricity industry. Ododo made the appeal during a meeting with retired power sector leaders, where he praised their contributions to the development of the country’s electricity industry. He said their experience and institutional expertise were vital to addressing Nigeria’s longstanding power challenges. Quoting former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, the governor said lasting progress depends on learning from those who laid the foundation of key institutions.
Ododo, a former employee of the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA), described the meeting as a reunion with mentors and colleagues who shaped his professional career. He said the values of discipline, teamwork and integrity he acquired during his years in the power sector continue to guide his leadership. The governor stressed that reliable electricity remains critical to industrialisation, investment, healthcare, education and job creation. “The nation still needs your expertise, experience and guidance,” he told the retirees. Speaking on behalf of the group, Dr Samuel Agbogun commended the governor’s performance, particularly in governance and security.
Other speakers, including Engr Akin Bada, Engr Hope Toru and Engr Ibrahim Hashim, welcomed the establishment of the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission, saying it would strengthen regulation, attract investment and improve electricity supply in the state.
