Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi has been named to the prestigious Football Black List 2026, a feat that is in recognition of the Fulham midfielder’s contributions beyond the pitch.
Football Black List announced the winners in the “Players – Off the Pitch” category on its X handle.
“Premier League stars Eberechi Eze and Alex Iwobi, alongside Lionesses European Championship winner Jess Carter, are among the high-profile names featured in the 2026 Football Black List, announced today,” the organisers wrote on their website on Tuesday.
“They are joined by Manchester United CEO Omar Berrada and Manchester City assistant coach Kolo Touré, all recognised for their outstanding contributions and positive influence within the game.”
Iwobi, 29, was listed for his efforts in founding Project 17 in 2021. His efforts empower underserved Black youth via workshops, mentorship programmes, annual competitions such as the P17 Cup, and football clinics.
Fulham also congratulated the footballer on the honour.
“Iwobi and his fellow recipients will be honoured at a celebration event in Westminster on Tuesday, 14th April. Congratulations, Alex!” the Premier League club wrote.
The Super Eagles were also not left out in the flood of congratulatory messages to Iwobi.
“We are proud of you, Alex,” the three-time AFCON winners wrote on their X handle.

The midfielder’s inclusion followed his great outing with Fulham this term. The Super Eagle has played over 25 Premier League games for his club this season. He has seven goals and assists to his name so far.
Iwobi is joined on the list by another player of Nigerian descent, Eberechi Eze, who plays for Arsenal in the Premier League.
Eze, 27, was listed for his efforts in his foundation. The non-profit is dedicated to empowering South London’s youth through sports and education.
Others who will be honoured include football figures such as Omar Berrada and Kolo Touré.
The list was picked from nominations by a panel of experts, which includes Premier League representatives, refereeing body PGMOL, and anti-discrimination campaign group Kick It Out, among others.
Founded in 2008, it showcases Black footballers who have used their platforms for community development, social work, and philanthropic efforts.
The Football Black List is an initiative that pays tribute to the achievements of Black people “in all areas of football, from players and coaches to executives, media professionals, and grassroots leaders”.
“This initiative continues to inspire many, and we are incredibly proud of what it has become. It’s about celebrating the vital role our community plays in the game. I’m looking forward to the celebration event and excited about the future of the Football Black List,” Football Black List co-founder, Rodney Hinds,

Meanwhile, Iwobi and other players are already in camp ahead of Nigeria’s friendlies with Iran and Jordan.
The Super Eagles have a full house already in their Antalya camp in Turkey. However, Calvin Bassey withdrew owing to an injury, which has now left Nigeria with 22 players.
Nigeria take on Iran on Friday before facing Jordan on March 31.
