The Lagos State Government has expressed confidence that Nigeria will surmount its current challenges under the leadership of Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu made this known during a special prayer session held in honour of President Tinubu’s 74th birthday and in support of his re-election bid at the Lagos Secretariat Community Central Mosque.
Represented by the Commissioner for Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro, SAN, the governor thanked Lagosians and Nigerians for their continued support for the president, expressing optimism about the country’s future.
He urged citizens not to be complacent about Tinubu’s political future but to remain actively engaged in the democratic process.
Sanwo-Olu called on eligible voters to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate fully in upcoming elections, stressing the need for sustained mobilisation ahead of the 2027 polls.
The governor also referenced ongoing discussions on the creation of state police, noting that proposals on its operational framework have been submitted to the National Assembly. He appealed for patience and trust in the administration’s long-term vision, emphasising that meaningful national development requires time and consistency.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Matters (Islam), Abdullahi Jebe, said the prayer session was organised in recognition of Tinubu’s contributions to society.
He described the president as a leader who has mentored many and laid enduring foundations for governance, particularly during his tenure as governor of Lagos State.
Jebe stressed the importance of praying for national leaders and urged Nigerians to support efforts aimed at national progress.
Chairman of the mosque, Engr. Hafis Toriola, said the initiative was not only to honour the president but also to pray for the country’s stability and growth. He noted that the gathering aligns with religious teachings encouraging prayers for leaders.
According to him, the prayers extended beyond the president to include key state officials and the nation, with a focus on seeking divine guidance, protection and wisdom for leaders at all levels to promote development and improve citizens’ welfare.
