The Super Eagles of Nigeria played an entertaining 2-2 draw with Jordan on Tuesday to win the four-nation invitational friendly tournament in Antalya, Turkey.
Eric Chelle’s side recovered from Mousa Tamari’s first half strike with goals from Ademola Lookman and Emmanuel Fernandez to the the lead, but Mohammad Al-Daoud’s late leveler could not deny the Eagles overall victory in Antalya despite a reduction to ten men in the final minutes.
Nigeria claimed one win and draw apiece in the tournament to finish with four points, one point ahead of second-placed Iran to win the tournament.
Jordan, set to debut at the 2026 World Cup, took the lead on 17 minutes through Tamari’s strike from a well-worked free-kick that Nigeria goalkeeper Francis Uzoho could only push into the net.
Chelle was visibly unhappy with the team’s early performance and they improved with a goal by Akor Adams who diverted Raphael Onyedika into the net, but the Sevilla man was adjudged offside.
Nigeria eventually equalized through Simon who controlled Lookman’s blocked shot and slotted his low drive into the bottom corner for 1-1 on 25 minutes.
The comeback was completed through Fernandez, who arrived at the far post to slot home Bright Osayi-Samuel’s deep cross for 2-1, and his first international goal on his full Eagles debut, and second game for Nigeria.
Adeleye Adebayo replaced injured Francis Uzoho for his second cap, and he conceded the equalizer to Mohammad Al-Daoud who netted his first international goal through the goalkeeper’s legs.
Alex Iwobi was shown a red card for retaliation against a Jordan player holding him back from advancing with the ball, but Nigeria held on to claim a point.
The draw is the first ever stalemate between both countries, as Nigeria continued its good form against Middle Eastern opponents in Turkey.
It is the second friendly tournament Nigeria will win in 10 months, adding to the 2025 Unity Cup Nigeria won in London last May.
Chelle’s Super Eagles are also on a seven-match unbeaten run in regulation time.
