The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has concluded an enhanced contract package for Super Eagles Head Coach Eric Chelle, doubling his monthly salary to $100,000 and assigning him the additional responsibility of managing Nigeria’s U-23 national team. The new arrangement was approved at a joint meeting of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the NFF in Abuja. Chairman of the NSC, Shehu Dikko, disclosed that the revised agreement includes improved financial terms and a new structure under which the federation will directly pay the salaries of Chelle’s assistants.
“I can confirm to you that we have agreed new terms with the coach about his new remuneration, to increase his salary, and we will also take care of his assistants,” Dikko said. Chelle, who was appointed in January 2025 on a two-year contract with an option of extension, had been earning $50,000 monthly and was responsible for paying his backroom staff from his wages. Negotiations over an extension had stalled after the Malian tactician changed agents, with his new representative demanding improved terms. As part of the restructuring, Chelle and his technical crew will take charge of the Olympic Eagles ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
“With the NFF, we also agreed that the coach will take care of the U-23 national team because we have young players coming into the Super Eagles within that age bracket,” Dikko added.
