Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, have seized 1,378 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa belonging to a drug cartel in the State.
The State’s NDLEA Commander, Mitchel Ofoyeju, who disclosed this, said the agency arrested a suspected member of the drug cartel, Roland Owie, 37, in connection with the seized drugs.
He said based on intelligence, the command raided the illegal warehouse located in the Igbanke community, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to him, 125 bags of dried weeds suspected to be skunk cannabis, with a total weight of 1,378 kilograms, were recovered from the warehouse.
“The seizure of 1,378 kilograms of cannabis in one single operation unequivocally represents a significant dent in the distribution network of these harmful substances.
“This successful operation is a testament to our relentless pursuit of drug cartels and our strategic focus on supply suppression,” he said.
He said with the seizure, the command had cut off drug supply from reaching streets, schools, and communities, thereby saving young people from the devastating scourge of addiction.
He noted that every kilogram seized disrupts the criminal economy, weakens trafficking syndicates, and makes the society safer, saying drug supply suppression remains a cornerstone of the NDLEA’s strategy.
