The Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, Charles Ebuebu, has urged content owners to leverage opportunities in Nigeria’s Digital Switchover (DSO), saying the transition will boost visibility, revenue, and industry collaboration.
Speaking as Special Guest of Honour at the induction ceremony of the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria in Lagos, Ebuebu stressed that the success of the DSO depends largely on active participation by content creators.
“Without engaging content to populate the channels, the DSO’s success could be incomplete. We urge content owners to collaborate with the commission to ensure Nigeria’s digital future is rich, diverse, and sustainable,” he said.
He noted that the upcoming FreeTV Direct-to-Home platform and its mobile applications would expand reach nationwide, offering creators enhanced audience analytics and opportunities for brand partnerships.
Nigeria’s DSO marks the transition from analogue to digital broadcasting, driven by the NBC using the Nigerian Communications Satellite infrastructure.
The initiative aims to deliver over 100 channels and improve access, particularly in underserved areas, through hybrid decoders.
After multiple delays since 2012, the project is now backed by stronger government support and is scheduled for rollout in April 2026.
Ebuebu commended EMCOAN members for advancing Nigeria’s creative economy and reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to promoting local content globally.
At the event, EMCOAN named Wale Adenuga as Grand Patron and Yinka Adebayo as Patron.
Other industry figures present included Opa Williams, Agatha Amata, Jibe Ologeh, Emeka Ossai, Debbie Odetayo, Amina Mohammed, and Frank Elaboya.
EMCOAN President, Adeniji Omirin, called on members to embrace the digital transition, describing it as a defining moment for Nigeria’s broadcasting and creative industries.
