Nasarawa APC stakeholders have adopted direct primary for the forthcoming governorship primary in the state.
The decision was made at a meeting with governorship aspirants, National Assembly members, and other stakeholders, with Governor Abdullahi Sule announcing that it’s time for Nasarawa West Senatorial Zone to produce the next governor.
The Governor emphasized the importance of fairness and equity in the party’s decision-making process stating that the meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to express their views on navigating the primary election season while keeping the party united and strong.
He noted that the majority of stakeholders favored a direct primary, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s stance on giving every party member a voice in determining the party’s flag bearer.
Governor Sule assured that the process will be open, transparent, and compliant with the APC constitution and Electoral Act, leaving no room for grievances.
“Nobody, nobody whatsoever will have any excuse to leave the party, because we are going to have a very transparent, very democratic process in line with the constitution of the party and the Electoral Act. So the person who leaves after losing is leaving because he does not know how to lose,” he said.
On zoning, Governor Sule explained that the principle of equity and brotherhood among senatorial zones guided the decision, with Nasarawa West due for the governorship slot.
“I keep insisting, and I stand by that, in line with the spirit of brotherhood, let us take it to Keffi Zone, which has not produced a governor for twenty years,” he stated.
Governor Sule thanked stakeholders for their cooperation, expressing confidence that the APC will emerge stronger and united from the primaries, ready to win the 2027 general election.
