Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, said Media Trust has been promoting the unity of the country through ethical reporting
He said the company’s existence and expansion have led to it being a source of livelihood for thousands of people it employs
“Investment like this is not only done for profit-making, but people are doing it also to discharge some of their social responsibility to their communities and to the country
“I am sure today, the number of employees in the Media Trust Group is good enough that their means of livelihood solely depend on what they are earning, salaries and wages,” he said
The governor urged media organisations and journalists to uphold ethical standards
He added that beyond the business of news dissemination, the company’s operations are contributing a great deal to the Nigerian economy through tax and provision of employment
“You are helping the government because you are providing employment to the citizens of this country At the same time, as the Deputy Senate President has said, you also pay your obligation to the government.
“And that obligation you pay to the government will help the government also to discharge its responsibility by providing social services to the citizens of this country”
“So, if you look at the contribution you are making to the economy, it’s quite big And therefore, this needs to be commended.
“Therefore, I want to use this opportunity to really congratulate the media trust group for their giant stride and for their professionalism and for upholding the ethical standard of journalism,” he said
He prayed that the company will continue to maintain and improve on the innovation it is bringing into the Nigerian news business
