A wave of violent incidents, including a suspected gang attack and inter-community clashes, has left at least three people dead and several others injured in Katsina metropolis between Friday and Saturday.
The attacks occurred in Tudun Wada, Bakin Gawo, Unguwar Wala and Shararrar Pipe—areas residents said have witnessed persistent youth violence despite security interventions.
Among the victims was a popular local musician, Sufiyanu Abubakar, also known as Abu Amshi, who was killed in Shararrar Pipe.
Accounts of his death remain conflicting. While some said the 27-year-old was attacked Friday evening outside his father’s residence during Sallah celebrations, others reported that assailants stormed his home around 2 a.m. Saturday, searching for his younger brother after a dispute. Failing to find him, they allegedly attacked Abubakar.
He was rushed to the hospital but later died from his injuries and was buried Saturday morning. His family described him as their main provider and called for justice.
Later on Saturday, violence erupted in a clash between residents of Unguwar Wala and Shararrar Pipe, reportedly triggered by earlier attacks and reprisals.
At least two people—one from each community—were killed.
The incidents followed an earlier clash on March 20 between youths in Tudun Wada and Bakin Gawo, which left a resident, Hamza, seriously injured.
Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement, as efforts to reach spokesperson Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu were unsuccessful.
