The North-Central leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore Fulani Sociocultural Association has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and relevant authorities to intervene in the continued detention of its leader, Alhaji Abdullahi Bello Bodejo
The group said Bodejo’s prolonged detention had raised concerns among his family, associates and members of the pastoralist community, urging the authorities to ensure that his constitutional rights and personal liberty were respected
In a statement read by its North-Central Chairman, Alhaji Idris Gidado Bebeji, at a press conference in Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, the association appealed to President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi, the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and security agencies to review the circumstances surrounding Bodejo’s continued detention
According to the association, Bodejo was arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Jalingo, Taraba State, on the day he declared his intention to contest for the Taraba Central Senatorial District seat
It alleged that after spending almost four months in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and reportedly fulfilling the conditions for his release, Bodejo was released before being rearrested by DSS operatives on August 28, 2026
The group said it recognised the constitutional responsibilities of security and law enforcement agencies and was not seeking to obstruct any investigation
“We are not asking that Alhaji Bello Bodejo or any other citizen be placed above the law,” the statement said, stressing that its appeal was for due process and respect for his rights
The association urged the authorities to disclose or review the legal basis for Bodejo’s continued detention
It said if there was a lawful basis for further investigation or prosecution, due process should be followed, but if his detention was no longer legally necessary, he should be released to his family without further delay
