Mercy Yohanna emerged as the overall winner of the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Golf Club Ladies 2nd Quarter Medal Kitty after returning an outstanding net score of 65 to beat a strong field of 121 entries at the club’s course on NAF Base Bill Clinton Drive, Abuja. The competition which held over the weekend attracted golfers from different categories, but it was Yohanna who stole the spotlight with a superb performance that earned her the coveted Medal Winner title in the ladies’ division.
Playing with a handicap of 26, Yohanna recorded a gross score of 91 and an impressive net score of 65, finishing ahead of Susan Marcus, who posted a net score of 72 to claim the runners-up position, while PC Ajayi settled for the second runners-up spot with a net score of 73. Yohanna’s victory capped an exciting day of golf at the prestigious club as competitors battled for honours in various categories. In the men’s event for players with handicaps between 15 and 28, MA Mamman emerged best net winner with a score of 67, while Makrop Datu finished runner-up on 70.
In the men’s category for golfers with handicaps between 0 and 14, Tunji Adeleye claimed the best net prize with a score of 68, with E. Okundaye finishing runner-up after returning 70 on countback. SM Bello secured the Best Gross prize in the men’s division with a gross score of 80. Among the veterans, John Mrabure carded a net score of 71 to emerge best net winner, while Musa Shaibu finished runner-up with 73. In the guests’ category, Fred Oghoyone claimed the best net prize on countback after tying on 68 with Victor Garba, who settled for the runners-up position. Patience Abba won the best net ladies’ prize among the guests with a net score of 73.
Auxiliary prizes also produced memorable moments, with Nankyer N winning the Best Dressed award, Ekpo IE taking the Longest Drive Men prize with a drive of 215 metres, while Dorcas Malle recorded 195 metres to win the ladies’ longest drive contest. However, the day belonged to Mercy Yohanna, whose remarkable display saw her emerge the undisputed champion from a highly competitive field of 121 golfers. Speaking with Golf Digest, the avid golfer, Yohanna, who has won more than 20 trophies in her career, expressed delight after emerging as the Ladies’ Champion once again. “Okay, I feel great and excited to be crowned the Ladies’ Champion once again. It’s all about practice for me.
Whenever I have a tournament coming up, I make sure I familiarize myself with the course beforehand,” she said. Reflecting on her achievements and future ambitions, Yohanna noted that she remains focused on improving her game and adding to her impressive trophy haul. “I have won more than 20 trophies so far, and I am determined to come back even stronger and better. Fans should expect more victories from me,” she added.
