8 million under false pretences. The defendant, whose address was not provided to the court, is standing trial on a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretenses and impersonation. He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecutor, Insp. Adegeshin Famuyiwa, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 8, 2025, at about 2:20 pm opposite the Ikorodu General Hospital. 8 million from the complainant, Mr. Ekundayo Umar, with a promise to supply him a truckload of bottled water, knowing the claim to be false. The prosecutor further alleged that the defendant presented himself as an employee of Rite Foods Ltd, a claim he knew to be untrue.
Following a report, the defendant was eventually arrested by the police. According to the prosecution, the offenses contravene the provisions of Sections 314 and 380 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The Magistrate, Mr. A. O. Ogbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that the addresses of the sureties must be verified by the court.
