The President of African Private Universities, Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, will deliver the Convocation Lecture at the 13th Convocation Ceremony of the International Open University (IOU) in Banjul, The Gambia
This was contained in an invitation letter sent to Professor Gwarzo and signed by the Vice Chancellor/President of the International Open University, Professor Dr Makie Taal.
According to the letter, Professor Gwarzo will also serve as the Special Guest of Honour at the ceremony, which will feature the conferment of degrees, presentation of academic honours and awards, and a celebration of the achievements of the graduating students
The 13th Graduation Ceremony is scheduled to hold on Friday, January 22, 2027, at 5:30 pm. at the OIC Conference Centre, Banjul, The Gambia.
In the letter, the Vice Chancellor/President said the Convocation Lecture forms an important part of the University’s graduation programme and is intended to provide graduating students with an opportunity to hear from an accomplished leader whose experience and perspective can speak meaningfully to their future beyond the University
The letter reads in part:
“Compliments to you from the International Open University (IOU), West Africa
“I am pleased to write to you on behalf of the International Open University to invite you to serve as the Convocation Lecturer at the University’s 13th Graduation Ceremony, which will be held on Friday, 22nd January 2027, at 17:30 pm. at the OIC Conference Centre, Banjul, The Gambia.
“The Convocation Lecture forms an important part of the University’s graduation programme and is intended to provide our graduating students with an opportunity to hear from an accomplished leader whose experience and perspective can speak meaningfully to their future beyond the University
“Given your longstanding involvement in the development of higher education and your experience in building and leading academic institutions, we would be honoured to have you share your reflections and insights with our graduates and the University community
“We believe your address would provide valuable encouragement and practical perspectives as our graduates prepare to contribute to their respective professions and communities
“We would greatly appreciate your acceptance of this invitation and would be honoured to have you deliver the Convocation Lecture at this year’s graduation ceremony Your contribution would add considerable value to the academic and celebratory occasion.”
