Fast-rising Afrobeats artiste David “Kwate” Cross has unveiled a new stage identity, “Flower Boy,” as he prepares to release a new single dedicated to his growing global fanbase.
Kwate, whose music continues to perform strongly across digital streaming platforms, said the rebrand reflects his appreciation for the support he has received from fans in Nigeria and abroad. According to the singer, the forthcoming track titled “Flower Boy” is inspired by the loyalty and enthusiasm of his listeners worldwide.
The announcement follows a recent performance in Atlanta, Georgia, where the Edo State-born artiste thrilled fans and symbolically handed out flowers to audience members on stage—an act he described as a gesture of gratitude. The performance drew enthusiastic reactions from fans, further cementing his rising profile on the international scene.
Speaking after the show, Kwate expressed appreciation to his supporters, noting that their consistent streaming and encouragement have played a key role in his career growth.
“I appreciate my fans all over the world for being part of my journey. Your support has been my motivation. My new single, ‘Flower Boy,’ is dedicated to you as a token of gratitude,” he said.
The development comes shortly after the release of his EP, From Me To You, which has continued to gain traction online.
Kwate, known for blending Afrobeats with dancehall influences, has built a reputation for delivering energetic and uplifting sounds. His musical journey began in Edo State before he relocated to Lagos in 1998, where he further honed his craft.
He rose to prominence in 2010 with the release of “Party Dey Here” from his debut album Tami Lorobo, which enjoyed significant airplay across Nigeria. In 2012, his collaboration with singer Jawo on “Baby Give Me More” expanded his reach and earned him multiple award nominations.
In 2013, he won the Best New Artist award at the Global Excellence Awards, presented by industry figures Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo “D1” Adeneye. His international recognition has since grown, with nominations at the Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) and the African Entertainment Awards Malaysia.
Kwate’s recent works have also attracted attention from major industry names. His 2024 release “On Ground” featuring Black IQ gained additional momentum with a remix that included rapper Magnito and street-pop artiste Portable.
One of his biggest career milestones came in November 2024, when he performed at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, opening for global Afrobeats star Davido.
Beyond music releases, Kwate has continued to expand his international footprint, securing affiliations with record labels such as Black Mobb and Fame and Fortune Gang, making appearances at the 67th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, and featuring on major platforms including iHeartRadio. His songs have also received airplay on leading radio stations in the United States.
With the “Flower Boy” rebrand and new single on the horizon, Kwate appears set to further strengthen his connection with fans while consolidating his presence on the global music stage.
