The Kogi State Social Investment Programme Agency (KOSSIPA) has extended humanitarian support to an elderly woman, Mama Salametu Shaibu, following a viral video that exposed her living in deplorable conditions.
The agency’s swift intervention underscores its commitment to improving the welfare of vulnerable citizens across the state.
The video, which circulated widely online, showed the aged woman without access to adequate food and medical care. Moved by her plight, KOSSIPA mobilised resources to locate her and provide immediate assistance.
During a visit to her residence, the Director-General of the agency, Hajia Aishat Oyiza Omade, led a delegation that spent time with the woman, offering both emotional support and relief materials.
“As part of the intervention, a sum of ₦1,000,000 has been handed over to the APC Ward Chairman of Obehira Uvete 1 to facilitate the renovation of her dilapidated apartment, ensuring she lives in a safer and more dignified environment,” Omade said.
She added that the beneficiary has been placed on a monthly stipend of ₦100,000 to cover feeding, healthcare, and general wellbeing, noting that her March allowance has already been paid alongside the distribution of food items and other essentials.
KOSSIPA also disclosed that its medical team will conduct regular health check-ups and provide continuous care, while community stakeholders are being engaged to ensure sustained support and companionship.
In a related development, the agency announced a full educational scholarship for the young girl who recorded and shared the viral video. The girl, who is preparing for her WAEC examinations and aspires to study Law, will benefit from the scholarship upon securing admission into a tertiary institution.
Reaffirming the agency’s mandate, Omade stressed that no elderly person, child, or vulnerable individual should be neglected, noting that their sacrifices deserve dignity, care, and compassion.
She reiterated KOSSIPA’s commitment to restoring hope and improving lives through impactful humanitarian interventions across Kogi State.
