Kano Government Clarifies Governor’s Absence from Hawan Nasarawa
The Kano State Government has officially addressed and dismissed circulating social media reports suggesting a rift between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II. The rumors gained traction following the Governor’s absence at the Hawan Nasarawa Sallah durbar held at the Government House on Sunday.
In a statement released on Monday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the administration described the claims as "false, unfounded, and deliberately concocted to misinform the public and create unnecessary tension."
Official Reasons for Absence
The government clarified that Governor Yusuf’s absence was due to an unavoidable official engagement. According to the statement, the Governor was in Lagos to attend a strategic meeting of Nigerian governors, which coincided with the Hawan Nasarawa celebrations.
To ensure the tradition was upheld, the Governor took several steps to maintain protocol:
- Formal Communication: The Governor formally communicated his travel plans to the Emir prior to the event.
- Official Delegation: The Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, was directed to represent the Governor and receive the Emir on his behalf.
- Senior Representation: Other high-ranking government officials were also present to ensure the ceremony was conducted with the expected level of dignity.
A History of Mutual Respect
The administration highlighted that Governor Yusuf has been actively involved in other religious and traditional activities throughout the Eid-el-Fitr period. These actions reinforce the government's stance that there is no animosity between the two leaders. Key engagements include:
- Eid Prayers: The Governor personally attended the Eid prayer led by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.
- Traditional Festivities: He participated in the Hawan Daushe at the Gaya Emirate.
- Hosting Traditional Leaders: The Governor made specific arrangements to personally receive the Emirs of Rano, Karaye, and Gaya.
“The relationship between the Kano State Government and the Kano Emirate Council remains cordial, respectful, and anchored on mutual commitment to sustaining peace, unity, and development in Kano State,” the statement read. The government concluded by urging the public to disregard speculative reports and rely on credible information sources to avoid being misled by misinformation.
