Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya, a former Senator, who represented Kano South, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The resignation letter dated April 5, 2026, was addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Gaya Local Government area of the state.
The lawmaker stated that his decision was with immediate effect.
Daily Trust reported that on March 30, the 2023 governorship candidate of the APC in Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, formally resigned his membership of the party.
Gawuna subsequently joined the ADC and later met with the leader of the kwankwasiyya Movement, Dr Rabiu Musa kwankwaso.
However, Gaya said his decision followed “careful reflection and wide consultation,” noting that leaving the APC aligns with the best interests of his constituents and his personal convictions.
“I extend my sincere gratitude to the party for the platform it provided me and for the cooperation and camaraderie extended over the years,” he stated.
The letter was formally acknowledged by the Gaya Arewa Ward Chairman, Adam A. Adam.
Gaya confirmed his defection to the ADC, adding that he maintains a cordial relationship with Kwankwaso and Gawuna.
Gaya added, “I have spent good eight years in this party and I was Kano South Senator and people have seen the role we played
“APC was founded on good principles, but it has now deviated. For good eight years, APC was on track. Insecurity is now everywhere. During Buhari’s tenure, insecurity was only in northeast, now it’s all over the country.”
