President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has ordered the security chiefs and the Minister of Defence to do all it takes to arrest the perpetrators of Jos killings.
President Tinubu gave the directive on Thursday when he visited the state over the Palm Sunday killings in Angwan Rukuba area of Jos the Plateau State capital, which led to the death of over 28 persons, as several others were injury.
Speaking at a town hall meeting with stakeholders of the state, Tinubu also ordered immediate strengthening of security measures in the state to tackle recurring attacks.
The President announced the Federal Government’s arrangement to deploy 5,000 security cameras to the state to boost intelligence gathering, surveillance and rapid response to security threats.
He stressed that Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, and himself were elected on the promise of peace and prosperity, to come together and create a community that lifts up our people, not to hear that they are been killed always.
In his earlier remarks, Mutfwang noted that the attack represented a temporary setback, expressing confidence that with the support of the Federal Government and security forces, the state would overcome the challenge.
According to the governor, the efforts of security agencies in preventing many attacks that often go unnoticed is commendable, and that they have been convening security council meetings always to ensure that security is always intact, despite challenges.
“The security problem had persisted for nearly three decades across the tenures of previous governors, including Joshua Dariye, Senator Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong. But President Tinubu’s leadership had provided a new platform for unity among Plateau leaders.
“I am assuring the President of my resolve to rally leaders and people to confront the challenge and reclaim the state’s identity as a land of peace and tourism,” he stated.
