The Adamawa State Government has extended support to 200 patients and celebrated newborn babies in two major hospitals as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th Independence Anniversary
The outreach, held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, covered the Adamawa State University Teaching Hospital and the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital, with particular attention to patients in the paediatric and maternity wards
The initiative was designed to identify with patients, especially mothers and children, provide assistance to those receiving treatment, and celebrate babies born on Nigeria’s Independence Day
Speaking to journalists after touring the wards, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Leader Leneke, said the government chose to commemorate the anniversary by reaching out to patients and families and sharing in their experiences
He said the exercise also provided an opportunity to celebrate babies delivered on Independence Day while extending the state government’s support to patients undergoing treatment
Leneke described the initiative as a demonstration of the government’s commitment to the welfare of its citizens, improved healthcare delivery and human development
He noted that the excitement and appreciation expressed by the beneficiaries reflected the significance of the gesture to patients and their families
At the maternity ward, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Neido Geoffrey Kulfolto, expressed gratitude to God for the safe delivery of the babies and prayed for their continued good health and wellbeing
An official in charge of the maternity ward disclosed that six deliveries were expected during the day, with one baby successfully delivered as of the time of the government’s visit
A total of 200 patients benefited from the outreach
