Former Benue Governor Samuel Ortom Crushes 2027 Election Speculation
Immediate past Governor of Benue State, Chief Samuel Ortom, has definitively put an end to swirling speculations regarding his political ambitions for the 2027 general elections. Speaking through his media adviser, Dr. Terver Akase, Ortom declared unequivocally that he has no intention of vying for any elective office.
Refuting Social Media Fabrications
The clarification comes amidst a flurry of social media reports suggesting that the former governor had expressed an interest in contesting for the Benue North-West Senatorial seat in 2027. These reports, which gained traction online, implied a potential return to electoral politics for Ortom.
However, Ortom wasted no time in dispelling these claims, labeling them as baseless fabrications. “I have no intention whatsoever to contest any elective office in 2027. I have said this clearly, publicly, and repeatedly,” he stated.
Commitment to Democratic Ideals, Not Office
The former governor emphasized that his current focus remains firmly on supporting the broader democratic process and strengthening the People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He articulated a role for himself as a statesman offering guidance, rather than an active contender for political office.
“I expect that a position stated this plainly would not require translation or creative reinterpretation,” Ortom added, underscoring the straightforward nature of his commitment to step away from electoral pursuits in the upcoming cycle. He urged the public to disregard the circulating reports, unequivocally stating they should be treated as “a fabrication.”
