The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, has debunked reports that he plans to resign to contest the Plateau North senatorial seat.
He described the claim as a rumour and urged the public to disregard it.
Daily Trust had included his name among those who may resign to seek elective office following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s directive in a recent report. Dr Jasper Adeleye, Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties to the minister, told Daily Trust that there was no such intention.
He stressed that having been appointed by the president, Doro remains committed to supporting the administration in achieving its objectives.
Adeleye noted that the minister was recently appointed and would not be considering another political position at a time when his services are needed in governance.
He added that Doro has only just begun working with the president.
“The speculations are understandable, given that the Honourable Minister had, before his appointment, indicated interest in the Plateau North senatorial contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress.
“However, he is fully focused on the task of coordinating humanitarian interventions and reducing poverty in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda,” Adeleye said.
He added that such reports could create unnecessary distractions and undermine the minister’s performance.
