Shocking Murder Rocks Port Harcourt as Gunmen Target Young Woman
In a brazen daylight attack, a young usher, Miss Divine Anyanwu, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, sending shockwaves through the community. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday along Odili Road, a busy area in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
Police Confirm Fatal Shooting After Hotel Ambush
The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the murder, revealing that the victim and her friend were trailed by the attackers from a hotel before the fatal shooting. According to Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Public Relations Officer and Chief Superintendent of Police, the assailants opened fire on the victims while they were en route in a Bolt ride.
“On March 21, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., the victim and her friend, identified as Special Bensington, boarded a Bolt ride from a hotel on Emmanuel Road, off Odili Road,” Iringe-Koko stated. “While traveling along the Total Gospel area, they were attacked by unknown armed hoodlums suspected to have trailed them from the hotel. The assailants, operating a tricycle, opened fire, and Divine sustained fatal gunshot injuries.”
Victim Rushed to Hospital but Succumbs to Injuries
Divine was immediately rushed to BMH Hospital in Port Harcourt, where doctors confirmed her death while she was receiving treatment. The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Abuloma Division and his team visited both the scene of the incident and the hospital as part of the initial investigation.
Police Launch Manhunt for Killers
The case has now been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further probe. Iringe-Koko assured the public that efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, urging anyone with useful information to come forward.
