Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has flagged off the construction of a 95-kilometre road in Tsafe Local Government Area, saying the project will improve security operations, facilitate transportation and stimulate economic activities
The governor performed the flag-off ceremony on Sunday for the construction of roads linking Yandoton Daji, Cediya, Doka, Yan Waren Daji, Hayin Alhaji Bedi, Unguwar Joji and Yankuzo to Tsafe, alongside five bridges
The project has been divided into two phases, with SKY Construction Company awarded the 47-kilometre first phase and Setraco Construction Company Limited handling the remaining 48 kilometres
Speaking at the ceremony, Lawal said the project covered predominantly agricultural communities that play an important role in the state’s economy
He said the government prioritised the project as part of efforts to restore peace and stability in the area
“As a responsible government, we are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of our people That is why we have prioritised this road project as a key intervention to restore peace and stability in Zamfara State,” he said.
The governor said the road would improve the movement of goods and enhance the mobility of security agencies, thereby strengthening their operational capacity and response to threats and attacks
He added that the project was part of his administration’s broader infrastructure renewal programme aimed at reconnecting communities and addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits
Lawal cited ongoing road projects, including the Gusau-Magami-Dansadau Road, Zurmi-Rukudawa Road and Mallamawa-Bukkuyum Road, with a spur to Masamar Mudi, as part of the administration’s efforts to improve connectivity
He said the Tsafe road project was expected to go beyond transportation by stimulating economic activities, strengthening security and improving the living conditions of residents
The governor also pledged that the government would ensure timely completion of the project, given the difficult circumstances facing communities in the area
He directed the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure to ensure effective supervision, quality assurance and strict compliance with approved engineering standards
“Contractors handling government projects must understand that Zamfara State expects value for money, quality craft and infrastructure capable of withstanding the test of time,” he said
Lawal expressed optimism that the road would strengthen ties among communities and contribute to the state’s economic growth and development
