Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has approved the appointment of Alhaji Aminu Atiku as the new Emir and Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi
The appointment was announced on Monday by the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Abubakar Mohammad Nakwada, in a statement issued in Gusau by his media and publicity secretary, Suleiman S/Tudu
According to the statement, the appointment followed consultations and the recommendation of the kingmakers of the Zurmi Emirate Council, in line with the traditions, customs and relevant laws of the state
Aminu Atiku, who held the traditional title of Dangaladiman Zurmi before his appointment as emir, becomes the 21st Sarkin Zamfaran Zurmi, succeeding the late Alhaji Bello Suleiman, who died on August 31, 2026
The new Emir is the eldest son of the late Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who was the 19th Emir of Zurmi
He also previously served as the Sole Administrator of the Zurmi Local Government Council
Congratulating the new monarch, Governor Lawal urged him to build on the legacy of his predecessors by promoting peace, justice, unity and the welfare of the people
The governor described the Zurmi Emirate, founded centuries ago by the Alibawa clan, as an important institution in the history of Zamfara, with a heritage rooted in scholarship, justice and service to the people
Lawal also charged the new Emir to promote unity and peaceful coexistence among communities in the emirate and strengthen collaboration with the state government and security agencies to improve peace and security
He assured the monarch of the state government’s support, expressing confidence that his reign would contribute to the peace, stability and development of Zurmi Emirate and Zamfara State
